I dabbled in dance as a child. Most of my memories of it don’t include the dancing part...what really stands out is the sticker book I had from ballet class and my glass ballerina necklace.

At some point, I stopped. I don’t have a clear memory of why I did, but what I do know is for most of my life I’ve carried the story that I’m an awkward dancer, that I’m uncoordinated and bad at it. So I mostly avoided it.

Aside from going out to bars or dancing at the occasional wedding, it’s only been in the last few years that I’ve allowed myself to dance in well-lit spaces, in more public spaces/events and without alcohol involved.

Now its an almost daily thing in my kitchen. I’ve even included it in my workshops and invite clients to dance before they sit down to write and create.

At the @imperfectbosses camp, @laylee_emadi lead us through a dance to Lizzo (of course) and invited us to really move, take up space and have fun with it. She even shared how often we stop doing something like dancing because maybe we were told we weren’t good enough to do it when we were younger.

Which has me wondering...what other joy and fun have I snubbed out of my life, simply because I didn’t feel like I met the “GOOD ENOUGH” requirements. There are no requirements for the record.

Play, dance, move and create anyway
