Creative Ruts: Why we might actually want to CELEBRATE and SAVOUR them instead of fearing them
Creative ruts are fertile ground for inspiration & innovation
Look they happen...and spoiler/not spoiler alert...they’ll happen again.
There’s a lot of reasons why we might be feeling this way and sometimes it has to do with us as a human, needing support and tending to our physical, mental or spiritual aspects in some way. This is why checking in with ourselves is so important and a great place to begin.
BUT for today’s post, I’m mostly talking about the creative ruts + funks that come about because we need CH-CH-CHANGE….
I used to freak out a little and get super bummed out when I found myself in a funk.
What is HAPPENING?!
Why don’t I feel creative when I paint?!
I feel bored with what I’m creating...WHY?!
But then after you go through 8 dozen of them or so……and you see how you ALWAYS find yourself back to being immersed in the process of using your hands and imaginations to CREATE again.
It’s something we’re quick to label as “bad” or to be avoided….when really it’s the perfect conditions for us to change our approach or perspective.
It’s the perfect opportunity to be a beginner and try a new activity, material, technique or mindset.
It’s an invitation to gather some fresh inspiration and insight and apply it to our work.
So the next time you or I find ourselves in a funk we can smirk, get curious and think “I SEE what’s going on here…”😉
Tell me….what weird but totally awesome ways has a creative funk invited you to change and innovate in your creative practice/projects?👇🏻
